Problems and overhauling. Unfortunately these components are virtually overhaul free. However, as the saying goes, prevention is better than cure, so the main thing is to select a MCS or SSR that is of the correct specification. Make sure it is the correct voltage i.e. 220V or 110V. The same as your machine. Make sure that the rating of the MCS or SSR is enough for your heating element. For example a 2000W element would require a minimum of 2000W MCS or SSR. You also have to remember that electrical wires do give off heat, especially on the big elements say around 5000W. The contactor pictured above actually melted. Fortunately the customer noticed the smell and called someone quickly. Solid State Relays need a heatsink. Quite simple really. Even if you upgrade from 25amp to 40amp and think you are safe with no heatsink it makes little difference really. However the best advice with these switches is safety first. ALWAYS give the details of your requirements to the electrical supplier and tell them what it is for, i.e. a 3000W heating element. |
